What you need to know about Marketing Numbers

If you are serious about getting a marketing number for your business you have probably looked around the Internet and found that for one reason or another you aren't sure what you are getting into. We want to reassure you there aren't any hidden catches by answering your questions on this page. And if you still aren't sure please give us a call on 0870 777 3155 or send an email to mail@quotes.co.uk.

Key Points

  1. There is no setup charge, no monthly rental fee or any hidden cost when setting up a Marketing Number. If you don't use the number you won't pay a penny.
  2. Memorable Numbers are available for just a one off transfer fee.
  3. On 0845 Lo-Call and 0800/0808 Freephone numbers the only costs you will incur are when you receive a call.
  4. All customers must provide a UK address for receipt of statements.
  5. A Direct Debit Form is needed for any number that incurs call charges, such as 0845 Local or 0800 Freephone numbers, any number with international routing, or numbers that terminate on a mobile phone line. The details you provide must be for a UK bank account. Only one Direct Debit Form is required per customer. The form can only be accepted by posting it to the address on the form.
  6. Your existing phone line and telephone number is unaffected by our marketing numbers. You can still use your old number for incoming calls. Outgoing calls are unaffected.
  7. The number is registered in your name. If you move you can take your number with you.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much do I need to pay to set up a number?

Set up is Free! Quotes does not charge any setting-up fees.

  • How much is the monthly rental?

Rental is Free! Quotes does not charge any rental fees.

  • Does anything happen to my existing BT number?

No. There is no change to your existing number. Both numbers can work at the same time. That means, if someone is not aware of your new marketing number and still calling you on your BT number, the call will still get through to you.

  • How do I get a good number?

There is usually a good variety and quantity of numbers to choose from. Check out our list of Memorable Numbers.

  • How often do I get the call traffic report and statement?

Every month (subject to a minimum £1 call spend/revenue)

  • How do I get paid my earnings on 0871?

You submit an invoice based on the amount in your call traffic reports. It is up to you when you decide to invoice, so you can carry smaller amounts over to the following month if you want.

  • How do I pay for calls?

If there will be charges for your calls you will be asked to complete a direct debit mandate. Payments are taken from your nominated bank account automatically.

  • Where can I get the form for the direct debit mandate?

You will be given the opportunity to download the form when you place your order online. You can also download a copy from our web site at www.quotes.co.uk/pdf/telecomdd.pdf. Please send your completed form to the address on the form as soon as possible to avoid any delay to the processing of your marketing numbers. Unfortunately we cannot accept the completed form by fax or email - you must post it to the address given.

  • How do I get the order reference number to put in the top box of the direct debit mandate form?

We will send you a confirmation email with your order reference number, usually on the same day or next working day.

  • What do I do with the direct debit mandate form if I place more than one order?

We only need one mandate from you. If you place more than one order put each of the order reference numbers in the top box of the direct debit mandate form and send in just the one form.

  • I already have a marketing number and want to place a new order. Do I still need to complete the direct debit mandate form?

If you have already completed a direct debit mandate form for your existing services you do not need to send another one in.

  • I am an individual, not a company, can I still have a marketing number?

Yes. Individuals and sole traders can use marketing numbers too. They can also be used as alternate numbers that you can use on incoming calls so that you don't have to give out your home number.

  • Can I point 0871 numbers to a mobile or international number?

Yes. However you will need to pay the mobile tariff (or international tariff) for each incoming call since two calls are now being made. The caller pays the standard rate for calling you on your 0871 number and you will pay the rate for the onward call to your mobile or international number. Please ask for our latest prices regarding mobile and international tariffs.

Marketing numbers are only intended for UK companies and not companies from overseas but we can usually set up a marketing number for overseas customers if you can supply a UK billing address with a UK direct debit instruction.

  • Can I point an 0800, 0808 or 0845 number to a mobile or international number?

This is subject to confirmation upon ordering. We can redirect 0800 numbers, 0808 numbers or 0845 numbers to a mobile or international number but it depends on several technical issues that need to be checked out first. If redirection is not possible you can achieve the same result by using Call Diversion from a UK land line. We will update this page if the situation changes.

  • Can I point a marketing number to a Skype In number?

Skype users that subscribe to the SkypeIn service can receive calls made by dialing a regular number, no matter where they are based. However, Skype In numbers will have a local dialling code such as 020, 0121, 0131, 0141, 0161 and if you work from more than one location you may not want to have your SkypeIn number tied down to a specific local area code.

Our marketing numbers are compatible with Skype's standard UK dialing codes, so people can call you on an 0800, 0808, 0845 or 0871 number and speak to you via your Skype connection. It doesn't matter which number you are allocated by Skype. This is also quite useful if the SkypeIn number you are allocated isn't particularly memorable and you want to choose a number that is simpler to dial.

  • What happens if I move? Can I take my number with me?

Yes. The non-geographic number can follow you anywhere in the UK. So you do not need to change your contact number if you move your premises. This ensures people still know how to contact you during (and after) your move and you can keep the same number on your web site and stationery.

  • If I need to, can I take my number to a new supplier?

Yes. Apart from technical considerations there are no restrictions on transferring your marketing numbers to another supplier.

  • Does it cost me anything to take my number to a new supplier?

No. There is no charge to release marketing numbers to a new supplier as long as they have porting arrangements with the same back end carriers. However your new supplier may still decide to levy a charge to adopt your number. If you give them the number you wish to transfer they can get all the details they need from that and tell you what procedures they need you to follow.

  • How do I get after sales service?

The marketing number is registered in your name. This avoids the need for any complicated three-way conversations when you need support. However we can still pass on instructions for new contact details for statements and redirection to new terminating numbers if you prefer to deal with us instead.

  • Where can I get a copy of the terms and conditions?

Quotes acts as an introducing agent, so the contract for telephone services is made directly between you and our telecom partner. The terms and conditions that apply are published on the telecom providers web site at www.entacall.com/popuptandc.htm.

  • Are there any hidden costs?

No.

  • Can I call you if I have any questions?

Yes. You can call us during office hours on 0870 777 3155.

  • Can I email you if I have any questions?

Yes. You can contact us by email at mail@quotes.co.uk.

  • What happens next?

We will email you to confirm the progress of your order.

If your marketing numbers haven't been activated and you did not receive an email confirmation please get in touch with us with your full contact details and order reference number if you have one. We will get back to you as soon as possible, usually on the same day or next working day.
