Froogle Store
Froogle (developed by Google) is dedicated to helping shoppers quickly find products for sale on the web. It is organised as a directory, with 15 different product categories. Categories include Clothing & Accessories, Arts & Entertainment, Car & Vehicles, Baby, Books, Music & Video, Computers, Electronics, Flowers, Food & Gourmet, Health & Personal Care, Home & Garden, Office, Sports & Outdoors and Toys & Games. You can look for products either by using a keyword search or by drilling down through a particular category and its subcategories. You can also limit your search to a specific category.
Search results are limited to one product per store. Each match in the list of results displays a small image with the name, price and description and a direct link to the product page on the merchant's own web site. Google Adwords are shown on the right hand side of the results page.
Froogle will list your products provided your web site is already up and running and products are available at a fixed price for purchase using a credit or debit card and the ordering process is clearly defined (PayPal meets this requirement). Froogle have other restrictions and technical requirements such as submitting product data at least once a month, even if it hasn't changed.
In its marketing literature Froogle says that "unlike other online shopping sites, Froogle costs nothing. There is no spending account to set up and maintain. No cost-per-click. No cost, period." They go on to say that "you control your product info on Froogle". Well, therein lies the catch because in our opinion submitting a data feed (which is done through Google Base) is beyond most people's understanding.
