The Open Directory (DMOZ)

The Open Directory Project (DMOZ)The Open Directory Project (ODP) is a directory of web links. It is also known as DMOZ. The directory is organised into 16 categories, such as Arts, Business, Health and Shopping. Each category is subdivided again and again into smaller categories until you get to a point that shows related links. For example: Regional > Europe > United_Kingdom > Business_and_Economy > Business_Services contains about 1,000 links.

Submitting a web site link and description to your choice of category is free of charge. The submission is reviewed by a volunteer editor to check the web site is genuine before it is published. Unfortunately many of the categories do not have an assigned editor and applications usually take several months to be approved.

The Open Directory Project provides the core directory services for Google, AOL Search, Netscape Search and Alexa. The database of links can also be published on other web sites free of charge. Web sites reviewed by the Open Directory Project are likely to get a boost in Google's search results. Quotes can submit your web site to The Open Directory (DMOZ) upon request.
