Adsense Content Weighting

If you want to earn money from your web site using Google Adsense it is a good idea to ensure that your web pages are optimised to serve the most relevant adverts. By inserting additional content weighting code into the web page you can help Google to understand which parts of your web page are the most important.

A web page will usually contain a visible area that includes your logo, navigation links, the main content area and other additional information in the footer.

By inserting <!-- google_ad_section_start --> as a hidden comment tag we can tell Google when to start looking for important text.

When we add <!-- google_ad_section_end --> as a hidden comment tag at the end of our main content text we can tell Google to ignore any text that follows.

This will ensure that only the most relevant text will be considered when determining which adverts should be displayed. Unrelated information, such as the text in the navigation area, disclaimers, web buttons, page modified dates, etc will be skipped.

We can also add <!-- google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) --> between these tags if there is something else we want to skip over. This is especially useful for pages created with Blogger that may contain comments from web site visitors. The content weighting start and end tags used in section targeting can also be used more than once if required.
